Homecoming King- Hasan Minhaj
It's like Hasan Minhaj decided to speak about his life and made it funnier, made it sensible, made us happier, made us understand his way of looking at life as an outsider and made some money of it (deserving so).
Recently watched this stand up special again because parts of it kept on ringing in my mind again and again.
One thing that really stood up for me was the fact that no one person is a spokesperson for his or her community. I mean who even elected that person right?
So stop judging a bunch op people by just one of them. See them as a whole. Their good and bad. And then understand why they do what they do. Maybe you won't end up hating everyone who oppose your views then.
Another thing that Hasan says is what he learned because of being an Indian American friend is that you need to get over the fear of WHAT WILL PEOPLE SAY, because people will always say something that will hurt you and put you down but you can't let that stop you.
My favorite quote from the special was YOUR COURAGE TO DO WHAT'S RIGHT SHOULD BE GREATER THAN YOUR FEAR OF FAILURE.
This statement stands at every critical life decision making that you will ever face. Because sometimes the easy way won't be the right one and then you need to choose. 'once you go brown you gotta lock that shit down.'
